The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that the Federal Government has approved the temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA) in Ibadan due to ongoing upgrade works.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, stated that the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has closed the runway and the airport in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.
She explained:
“As part of the Oyo State government’s initiative to upgrade Ibadan Airport from a domestic to an international airport, extensive remodeling and improvement works are currently in progress.
“To comply with aviation safety standards and ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel, the closure has become necessary.
“FAAN appeals for the understanding and cooperation of all airport users and stakeholders during this period. FAAN—safe skies, secure airports, seamless travel.”
