The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has announced a temporary closure on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, to mourn the tragic loss of five students who died in a fatal motor accident while returning home after their Harmattan Semester examinations.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Atiuke Oguntunde, confirming that the Vice-Chancellor has directed the suspension of all academic and administrative activities until Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
The deceased students have been identified as:
1. Olagbemide Dotun – 200 Level, Software Engineering
2. Suleiman Farouq Adedayo – 400 Level, Law
3. Ogundare Pelumi – 300 Level, Public Health
4. Ogundare Elijah – 100 Level, Mechanical Engineering
5. Olawuyi Mary – 200 Level, Nursing
The university community has been thrown into mourning following the heartbreaking incident, with staff, students, and management expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their colleagues.
“We pray that the Lord grants them eternal rest and gives their families the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement read.
UNIOSUN management has assured the public of its commitment to supporting the bereaved families during this difficult time, as students and staff gather to honor the memory of the departed souls.
