Lagos residents and motorists should brace for significant traffic disruptions today as President Bola Tinubu visits the state.
As is customary with presidential visits, road closures and heightened security measures will lead to gridlock along key routes.
Whenever the president is in Lagos, commuting becomes a challenge, especially along roads his convoy will navigate. The most affected routes typically include the Airport Road, Oshodi, and the Third Mainland Bridge leading to his residence in Ikoyi. Additional disruptions may occur if the president makes unplanned stops, as seen during his recent visit to the Oba of Lagos.
Security protocols usually involve road closures hours before the president’s arrival, leaving commuters stranded until his convoy passes. Once the roads reopen, motorists rush to their destinations, often leading to chaotic traffic, impatience, and occasional road rage.
A heavy security presence—including personnel from the army, police, navy, and civil defense—will be stationed along these routes, conducting security checks. In previous instances, some commuters have reported instances of harassment by security operatives.
Since his inauguration in May 2023, Tinubu has made multiple visits to Lagos. Notable visits include his return from an international trip on June 27, 2023, the unveiling of the Red Rail Line on February 29, 2024, and his December 2024 visit following the presentation of the 2025 Budget. In January 2025, he also visited the Oba of Lagos at the Iga Idunganran Palace.
Residents are advised to plan ahead and explore alternative routes to minimize delays.
