The Supreme Court has overturned the rulings of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, which had removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his position as National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

A five-member panel of the apex court ruled on Friday that the question of who holds the position of PDP National Secretary is an internal party matter and, therefore, not subject to judicial intervention.

Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Jamilu Tukur nullified the trial court’s October ruling and set aside the majority judgment of the Court of Appeal, which had upheld Anyanwu’s removal in December. Instead, the Supreme Court endorsed the minority judgment of Justice Ekanem, who had dismissed the trial court’s ruling due to a lack of jurisdiction.

Furthermore, the court determined that the plaintiff, Aniagu Emmanuel, lacked the legal standing to bring the case, as he failed to demonstrate any direct impact on him regarding the position of PDP National Secretary.

More details to follow.
