The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months following her allegation of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The decision was based on a report from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, which cited multiple breaches of Senate rules. During the committee’s investigation, testimonies were reviewed, and it was noted that Senator Natasha had previously disrupted a session by rejecting her assigned seat and engaging in a heated exchange.
While some senators argued for strict disciplinary measures to uphold the Senate’s integrity, Minority Leader Abba Moro appealed for a shorter three-month suspension. However, Senate President Akpabio confirmed the six-month suspension through a voice vote.
As part of the sanctions, Senator Natasha must return all National Assembly property, her security details will be withdrawn, and her office will be sealed off immediately.
