Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee passed away on Tuesday at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest, the company confirmed.
Born in 1962, Han dedicated over 37 years to Samsung, playing a pivotal role in establishing its TV business as a global leader. He was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO in 2022, overseeing the company’s consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions.
In an internal message, Samsung honoured Han’s contributions, stating, “He dedicated more than 37 years of his life to leading Samsung’s TV business to become a global leader.” The company also expressed its condolences to his family and loved ones.
As of now, no announcement has been made regarding his successor.
Just last week, Han chaired Samsung’s annual investor meeting, addressing concerns over the company’s stock performance and economic uncertainties. “There are some difficulties in doing semiconductor M&As due to regulatory issues and various national interests, but we’re determined to produce some tangible results this year,” he said, according to CNN.
Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before leading the electronics and devices division, he managed the company’s display operations.
