- Urges Governor Makinde to Curb Hooliganism in Schools
The Oyo State House of Assembly has suspended Emmanuel Adedokun, Chairman of Saki East Local Council, over allegations of gross misconduct.
Adedokun has been directed to step aside until further notice, while Vice Chairman Razaq Adeyemi takes over in an acting capacity.
The suspension was announced during plenary by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
This action follows a petition submitted by 11 concerned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saki East, accusing Adedokun of blatant disregard for Governor Seyi Makinde’s directives since assuming office.
Additionally, the Assembly has instructed the Council Secretary to act as vice chairman pending the conclusion of an investigation by the House Committee on Local Council and Chieftaincy Matters.
In a separate development, the Assembly has urged Governor Makinde to implement measures to curb gang violence and hooliganism among secondary school students in the state. The call was made during plenary, presided over by the Deputy Speaker.
Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola, representing Atiba State Constituency, moved a motion—seconded by Abideen Adeoye of Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Constituency—expressing concern over the rising cases of student violence, which have instilled fear among teachers and students alike.
To tackle the issue, Oyekola proposed stakeholder meetings, security collaborations, counselling programs, and awareness campaigns to promote a safer learning environment.
Furthermore, the Assembly advocated for the construction of toilets in primary and secondary schools across the state to improve hygiene and ensure an inclusive teaching and learning process.
