Popular Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has announced his intention to run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.
He stated that the country needs young, tech-savvy leaders instead of what he described as “old cargoes.”
Odumeje made the declaration during a Sunday sermon, a moment that quickly went viral on social media. However, he did not reveal the political party he plans to join.
“Both past and present leaders have failed to move Nigeria forward due to their age and lack of vision. The country needs a vibrant, resilient, and forward-thinking leader like me to bring real progress,” he declared.
Known for his flamboyant preaching style and self-styled titles such as “Indaboski Bahose” and “The Liquid Metal,” Odumeje emphasized the need for a youthful and digitally inclined president.
“We need a young leader in this country, and I think I am coming out. We need a digital leader, not old cargoes. Am I sure you hear me? I think I will come out, I will come out for president,” he told his congregation, who cheered in excitement.
He further asked his followers if they were ready for his leadership, promising to usher in modern development and a technology-driven future for Nigerians.
“Are you ready for me? Odumeje for president? Are you ready? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to construct a main road called Citadel for you. I want to give you a modern life, a digital life,” he said.
As the founder of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry in Onitsha, Odumeje is known for his unconventional approach to preaching, incorporating theatrics, music, and wrestling-style exorcisms into his services. His bold personality and controversial miracles have made him a polarizing figure in Nigeria’s religious and social circles.
He has also been involved in several controversies, including clashes with traditional leaders and allegations of financial misconduct. In 2022, his church was partly demolished by the Anambra State government over land encroachment issues, a move he publicly condemned.
Odumeje’s presidential ambition has sparked mixed reactions. While some of his followers support the idea, others believe it may be another of his dramatic performances meant for entertainment.
