The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has issued a stern warning to the Kwankwasiyya Movement and The National Movement (TNM), urging them to stop claiming membership or leadership roles within the party.
In a letter dated March 20, 2025, addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), NNPP clarified that its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the two groups ended in 2023 and must be respected.
Signed by Dr Boniface Aniebonam (Founder and Chairman of NNPP Board of Trustees) and Dr Agbo Major (National Chairman), the letter specifically called on Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso (leader of Kwankwasiyya) and Elder Buba Galadima (leader of TNM) to cease identifying with NNPP.
NNPP had initially collaborated with these groups for the 2023 presidential election, allowing Kwankwaso to contest under its platform. However, the party formally ended the agreement in July 2023. Despite this, members of Kwankwasiyya and TNM continued to associate themselves with NNPP, prompting the expulsion of some individuals for anti-party activities.
The letter warned:
“You must forthwith desist from this fraudulent and heinous posturing… The structure and leadership of NNPP have, since July 28, 2023, reverted to its original founders.”
This latest development highlights the deepening rift between NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya/TNM factions, which had been instrumental in the party’s 2023 election campaign.
