The Nigerian government has arrested and imprisoned three individuals suspected of vandalizing power line installations in Agbogwugu, Enugu State, which has negatively impacted the national grid.
Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), announced these developments in a statement on Thursday. She revealed that the arrests occurred on Sunday, March 24, 2025, following a coordinated effort between community members and law enforcement agencies.
Initially, the suspects were detained at the Agbogwugu police station in Ozalla. They were later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and ultimately remanded in prison after their first court appearance.
The TCN is working closely with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that the perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions.
Mbah emphasized the significance of community involvement in combating vandalism: “This incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. We urge all host communities to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security operatives or to the nearest TCN office. Vandalism is a crime that affects everyone and undermines the nation’s efforts to provide a reliable and efficient transmission grid.
“By coming together, we can protect our communities and ensure a robust transmission network. Prompt reporting of suspicious activities will significantly contribute to preventing such incidents and holding offenders accountable,” she stated.
