The Nigerian House of Representatives, through its Committee on Public Accounts, has launched an investigative hearing to address outstanding debts owed by several oil companies to the Federation Account, totaling N9.4 trillion.
House spokesperson Akin Rotimi announced the hearing in a statement on Sunday, emphasizing that it aligns with the committee’s constitutional mandate under sections 85, 88, and 89 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Order XX—Rule 6 of the House Standing Orders (eleventh edition).
The debt includes unpaid royalties, concession rentals, gas flare penalties, and obligations from production-sharing contracts, repayment agreements, and modified carry arrangements. Despite the Petroleum Industry Act mandating payment within 30 days, many of these debts have remained unsettled since 2021.
The hearing is set to take place from Monday to Friday, March 3–7, 2025. Oil companies listed below are required to submit requested documents and appear before the committee at Meeting Room 446, Fourth Floor, House of Representatives, National Assembly Complex, Abuja, at 10:00 am on their scheduled dates.
