The Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) has filed a lawsuit against popular TikTok influencer Ahmed Pasali, accusing him of defamation and damaging the reputation of Kannywood.
Pasali appeared before the Upper Area Court in Kasuwar Nama, Jos, on Monday to answer charges related to a social media video in which he allegedly made statements discrediting Kannywood actors and filmmakers.
During the court proceedings, the charges, including defamation and harming the image of Kannywood members, were read to him. He pleaded not guilty, and his legal counsel requested bail.
Judge Thomas Nakowa granted bail under strict conditions, including a ₦250,000 payment, a surety who owns a house in Jos with valid documentation, and a MOPPAN member signing as a guarantor. However, as Pasali was unable to meet the conditions immediately, he was remanded in a correctional facility.
MOPPAN’s national president, Malam Umaru Maikudi Cashman, emphasized the association’s stance against defamatory statements.
“We will not tolerate falsehoods or attempts to tarnish the reputation of Kannywood,” he stated.
The case has been adjourned until April 5 for further hearings.
