The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State is experiencing a wave of resignations following the exit of former governor Nasir El-Rufai from the party.
Multiple resignation letters obtained by NEWS BULLETIN on Monday indicate that many of El-Rufai’s supporters are leaving the ruling party in large numbers. This comes just hours after El-Rufai publicly announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Among those who have resigned are former commissioners who served under El-Rufai’s administration. Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, former Commissioner for Local Government, and Hajiya Hafsat Mohammed Baba, former Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, submitted their resignation letters to their respective ward chairmen on Monday.
Sani, in his letter, cited “hatred and disdain” from the APC leadership as his reason for leaving, stating that the party had strayed from its founding principles. He expressed gratitude to his supporters in Kubau Local Government Area and vowed to continue pursuing development and prosperity through another political platform.
Similarly, Hafsat Baba stated that the APC had lost its sense of direction and deviated from its core values of justice, peace, and unity. She emphasized that her continued membership in the party was no longer in line with her principles.
Despite the wave of resignations, the Kaduna APC has downplayed concerns, stating that El-Rufai’s defection has not unsettled the party.
