Pakistan’s police have charged a man with murder after he allegedly shot and killed the administrator of a community WhatsApp group for removing him from the chat.
Mushtaq Ahmed was fatally shot on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which has a history of sectarian violence.
According to police documents, a man identified as Ashfaq has been charged with the murder.
Mushtaq’s brother stated that the incident stemmed from an argument in the WhatsApp group, which led to Ashfaq being removed. The two men later agreed to meet for reconciliation, but Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire, killing Mushtaq.
Authorities note that the availability of firearms, tribal customs, and weak law enforcement often contribute to such violent incidents in the region.
