A longstanding land dispute between the people of Osi and Epe-Opin town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has escalated, resulting in the tragic loss of two young lives.

The crisis, which began on March 26, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage and tension among the people of Osi Town.

Tayo Ishaq Ogundari, a young man from Osi Town, was brutally murdered in a farm around Osi Town following an alleged misunderstanding with a man from Epe-Opin.

The heinous act sparked widespread outrage, but the people of Osi Town resolved to remain peaceful and law-abiding, restraining themselves from retaliating.

However, the situation took a devastating turn on March 27, 2025, as the people of Epe-Opin encroached on Osi territory, brutally assaulting innocent passersby. The attack led to a serious altercation, resulting in the critical injury of at least four persons. Unfortunately, one of the victims, Oluwasegun Taye, succumbed to his injuries and lost his life. Oluwasegun was from the same family as the late Tayo Ishaq Ogundari.

Further findings by 9japarrot revealed that the Ekiti Local Government Chairman, Hon. Wale Awelewa being the Chief Oluomo of Epe Community is aware of this ugly situation with no plan on sight of bringing the perpetrators to book. Osi Community members alleged that Awelewa is the mastermind behind the unrest between the two communities over a false claim on the piece of land said to belong to the people of the Osi Community.

Another source who claimed anonymous said Awelewa also masterminded the invitation letter issued to Olosi of Osi land on 18th March, 2025 by the Nigerian Police Force regarding the issue to make it look like it’s a natural occurrence.

They alleged that Awelewa brought in machineries from neighbouring towns among which are thugs, including Ifa to distort the peace of the community.

Reacting to the ugly incident, Seun Adeolu said it is obvious the people of Ekiti have elected a hired killer and heartless person in Awelewa as Chairman.

He charges all the political leaders in Osi most importantly the APC party leaders to report the issue to the Governor to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

Seun Adeolu added that ensuring peaceful coexistence is a collective efforts of everyone irrespective of party affiliation.

On his part Adebayo Olayemi from Osi said there are always repercussions for everything and this unrest caused by the people in power is bound to have an outcome.

He charges security operatives to swing into action to curtail further issues.

Comrade Babatunde Christopher popularly known as BabCee alleged that the ruling opposition party leaders have betrayed the trust of the good people of Osi.

“There are no leaders in the APC party who can call on the Chairman to do the needful” It will be a dream that will not come through if the community believes in the saying that party leaders should call on Awelewa, He said.

BabCee charges all Community and religious Leaders to swing into action by collaborating with relevant authorities to resolve the impending crisis.

According to our reporters, notable personalities like the former Naval Chief, Vice Admiral, Samuel Afolayan, Community Leaders, Osi Youth Council have swung into action to ensure that the crisis does not escalate beyond expectations.

9japarrot reports that the people of Osi Town are calling on the state government and security personnel to intervene and save them from the hands of Awelewa and the Epe-Opin community, crying out for help, urging the authorities to take immediate action to prevent further loss of life and property.

The community is seeking justice and protection from the perpetrators of the violence.
