The Kwara South Youth Congress (KSYC) has called on the state government to address critical infrastructure challenges affecting communities in Oke-Ero Local Government Area (LGA). In a statement issued in Ilorin, the group highlighted the deteriorating state of roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, and poor educational resources, urging Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to take immediate action.
KSYC’s Publicity Secretary, Adejare Bashir, emphasized the urgency of these concerns, particularly the deplorable condition of roads connecting key towns within Oke-Ero. He noted that the Ilofa-Odo-Owa road, a major link within the local government, has become nearly impassable, affecting transportation and economic activities.
“The roads in Ilofa, the headquarters of Oke-Ero LGA, are in dire need of rehabilitation, particularly the major route connecting Ilofa to Odo-Owa. It has become a shadow of itself, making life difficult for residents and travelers. We appeal to Governor Abdulrazaq to prioritize the reconstruction of these roads for the benefit of the community,” Bashir stated.
Beyond road infrastructure, KSYC raised concerns about the deteriorating healthcare system, particularly in Kajola and Odo-Owa. The Odo-Owa Primary Health Centre (PHC), which serves multiple communities, is reportedly in a state of disrepair, lacking essential medical equipment and personnel. The youth group urged the government to upgrade and properly equip the facility to ensure adequate healthcare services for residents.
Similarly, the Idofin region—comprising Idofin-Odo Ashe, Idofin-Odo Aga, and Idofin-Ayekale—faces severe infrastructure neglect. The group lamented the absence of government presence in these communities, leaving residents to rely on a single under-equipped PHC. Schools in the area are also struggling due to a shortage of qualified teachers and proper learning facilities, worsening the educational gap in the region.
In addition, KSYC drew attention to the plight of other communities, including Ekan Meje, Ilale, Ekannla, and Erinmope, where access to clean water, functional roads, and well-equipped public schools remains a challenge.
“The reality for many communities in Oke-Ero LGA is grim. People are struggling with basic necessities such as potable water, good roads, and quality education. We urge the state government to listen to the cries of its people and extend the benefits of governance to these underserved areas,” Bashir concluded.
KSYC’s appeal underscores the growing demand for government intervention in rural communities across Kwara State. The group hopes that Governor Abdulrazaq’s administration will prioritize these concerns in its development agenda, ensuring improved living conditions for residents of Oke-Ero LGA.
