
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Rukayyah Amadu, for allegedly killing her 30-year-old co-wife, Asiyah Amadu, by pouring hot water on her during a dispute.
The incident, which occurred on February 24, 2025, in Buju village, Dutse Local Government Area, was confirmed in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, on Thursday.
According to the statement, a disagreement between the two women escalated, leading Rukayyah to douse Asiyah with hot water. Asiyah sustained severe burns and was rushed to Dutse General Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries on March 4, 2025.
“At about 0900hrs on March 4, the victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel,” Adam said.
Following her death, the police took Rukayyah into custody and transferred her to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further inquiries.
“During interrogation, Rukayyah admitted to the act,” Adam revealed. “However, investigations are still ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the case.”
The police assured the public of a thorough investigation and vowed that justice would be served.
