A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has cautioned that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, could destabilize the ruling party just as he did with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Garba warned that if Wike continues what he described as an “overreach” on Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, the APC could face internal turmoil before the 2027 elections.
In a post on his Facebook page, Garba urged Wike to show restraint, emphasizing that even those in positions of power must exercise caution.
Wike and Fubara have been embroiled in a political struggle for control of Rivers State since Fubara took office in 2023. The crisis has deeply affected the state’s House of Assembly, with 27 lawmakers initially declaring their defection to the APC—though this claim was later dismissed. Their move led to a parallel Assembly, with Victor Oko-Jumbo emerging as Speaker, but the Supreme Court later reinstated the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly.
On Monday, the reinstated Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara, citing allegations of gross misconduct.
Reacting to the development, Garba wrote:
“If we allow Wike to continue his overreach on Fubara in Rivers, he will scatter APC before 2027 just as he did to PDP before 2023. Given the current situation, the timing is very poor. There is wisdom in exercising restraint, even when one appears more powerful.”
