The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), has suspended all political officeholders and appointees in the state.
Those affected by the directive include the Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie; former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo; state commissioners; and chairpersons and members of various boards, councils, agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals. Also impacted are Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants.
According to a statement from Government House, the suspension takes effect from Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Affected individuals are instructed to hand over to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries. In ministries without a permanent secretary, they are to transfer responsibilities to the director or head of administration.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Ibas (rtd) has sworn in a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, urging him to bring his expertise to bear in governing the state.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday night at the Executive Chambers of Government House. Speaking at the event, Ibas highlighted Prof. Worika’s extensive experience in law, policy, and international governance, describing it as a perfect fit for the administration’s mission to restore law, order, integrity, and public trust in Rivers State.
“To our new SSG, the task ahead is challenging, but your track record leaves no doubt that you will excel,” Ibas said. “Rivers State needs your intellect, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Together, we will write a new chapter of progress for this great state.”
He emphasized that Prof. Worika’s role will be crucial in implementing policies aligned with the administration’s mandate to restore law and order, stabilize the polity, and lay the groundwork for democratic institutions and representation.
Recalling his inaugural address, Ibas reiterated his administration’s commitment to effective governance built on transparency, accountability, and service. He urged the new SSG to embrace the responsibilities of his office and work closely with civil servants to ensure smooth administration.
“You have no time to settle in; you must roll up your sleeves and get to work immediately,” Ibas stated.
He also called on permanent secretaries and civil servants to cooperate with the administration, emphasizing their role in maintaining government operations during this transitional period.
“I once again seek your cooperation and support as we work towards achieving our objectives,” he added.
