The Sarkin Hausawa of Sasa in Ibadan, Oyo State, Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Katsina, has passed away at the age of 125. The revered leader of the Hausa community in Ibadan reportedly died on Saturday evening.
Mourning his passing, the Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, extended his condolences to the late monarch’s family and the entire Hausa community. In a statement issued through his media assistant, Kunle Olatunji, Akintunde described the loss as that of “a great spiritual and traditional leader.”
Until his demise, Alhaji Maiyasin Katsina served as the chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers in the 17 southern states of Nigeria. Known for his humility, piety, and dedication to public service, he was a strong advocate of good governance and democratic values.
Senator Akintunde highlighted the late monarch’s influence, stating that he was deeply respected and loved by his people and associates nationwide. “Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin, fondly called Sarkin Sasa, will be sorely missed. He was both a political and spiritual leader, embodying exceptional leadership qualities and a peaceful disposition. His guidance, unwavering support, and goodwill will be greatly missed.”
Expressing his sympathies, Akintunde extended his condolences to the monarch’s family, his subjects, and the broader Hausa community across Nigeria.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” he prayed.
