Jessica Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead at her home in Alexandria, Virginia, on Saturday.
The Alexandria Police Department has launched an investigation, while the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia has yet to determine the cause and manner of her death.
Aber, 43, had recently resigned from her position. She was appointed by President Joe Biden in 2021 and led the office for nearly three years before stepping down in January following the start of President Trump’s second term.
Expressing his condolences, her successor, U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert, said in a statement, “We are heartbroken beyond words to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague, U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber.”
