A 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, has tragically died after a palm tree fell on him in Bogije Village, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 3:30 pm on Sunday, and was reported to the police later that evening by one Gbamila Sunday, according to Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola.
Odutola stated that Rasaki and his companion, Waheed Abbass, had gone to Egbe Semi Jeje, Oke Sopen, to cut palm trees when one unexpectedly fell on Rasaki.
“Abdullahi reportedly screamed for help, and neighbors rushed to his aid, removing the tree and immediately taking him to the General Hospital in Sagamu,” Odutola said. “Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead by a doctor upon arrival at the hospital, with suspicions that the heavy tree had landed on a critical part of his body.”
His body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
The command has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and urged the public to exercise caution while engaging in tree-felling and farming activities to prevent similar tragedies.
