Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested eight students of Ifo High School for allegedly engaging in cult-related activities within the school premises.
The arrested students, aged 15 and 16, include Bennett Bolawatife, Aluko Taiwo, Kehinde Aluko (all 15), as well as Omolaso Waris, Akinola Ifeoluwa, Azeez Hassan, Kilani Babatunde (aka Soldier), and Fasedemi Samuel (all 16).
Confirming the arrest to NEWS BULLETIN on Saturday, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the school management raised an alarm over an emerging gang of student cultists. Acting on this report, officers from the Ifo division, in collaboration with school authorities, apprehended the suspects on Friday at approximately 12:05 p.m.
According to Odutola, the students were allegedly causing disturbances and extorting valuables from their peers.
She explained, “On March 21, 2025, at about 12:05 p.m., the Vice Principal of Ifo High School, Mr. Alako Oluwole, alongside a teacher, Mr. Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius, reported that a group of students was involved in cult-related activities, disrupting the school environment and extorting fellow students.”
Further investigation revealed that the students were members of a cult group known as Future Guys (F.T.G.) and were allegedly initiated by two senior students—Ebenezer Ope (the group’s President) and Ebenezer Tobi—both in SSS 1.
Odutola noted that investigations are ongoing to assess the extent of cult activities in the school and to prevent further occurrences. She added that the suspects will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after the preliminary investigation.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo has directed that the students be brought before him on the next working day for further interviews, where counselling and mentoring referrals will also be arranged.
Reaffirming his commitment to maintaining law and order, Ogunlowo urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to collaborate in eradicating cultism from schools.
