Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken a swipe at the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party should have expelled him.
El-Rufai, who recently defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said he left APC after realizing it no longer aligned with his values.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, the former governor expressed disappointment with the ruling party, accusing it of deviating from the progressive ideals it was founded on.
“It would have been better if they had expelled me,” El-Rufai said. “I have always said that APC would be my last political party. If they had expelled me, they would have saved me the trouble of explaining my departure. But as I see it, I didn’t leave the APC—rather, the APC left me.”
Mocking the party leadership, he added: “Now, I have quit, and I challenge them to eat the party if it is food.”
