Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos Special Offences Court, Ikeja, has ordered the remand of Jude Okoye, former manager of the defunct music group P-Square, at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre over an alleged $1.34 million theft.
Okoye, the elder brother of Peter Okoye (Mr P) and Paul Okoye (Rude Boy), was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside his company, Northside Music Limited, on four counts of stealing. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, Mohammed Bashir, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in custody. Meanwhile, Okoye’s lawyer, Clement Onwuenwunor (SAN), informed the court of a pending bail application filed on January 27 and pleaded for his client’s release on bail.
The prosecutor, however, stated his intention to file a counter-affidavit against the bail request and sought a short adjournment. Justice Oshodi subsequently ordered Okoye’s remand pending the hearing of his bail application, adjourning the case to March 6.
According to charge Ref/99260/2025, the EFCC accused Okoye of dishonestly converting $767,544.15, paid by Lex Records Limited for digital music distribution and publishing royalties, for his personal use, thereby depriving Peter Okoye of his financial interest in the funds.
The commission further alleged that between 2016 and 2023, Okoye misappropriated £34,537.59 from Lex Records Limited, $133,566.49 from Kobalt Music, and $118,652.23 from Mtech Limited—all payments meant for royalties—without remitting them to Peter Okoye.
The EFCC stated that Okoye’s actions violated Sections 278 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011.
