A Nigerian youth corps member has raised alarm after allegedly receiving ₦777,000 instead of the usual ₦77,000 monthly allowance from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
In a video shared on her TikTok page, she expressed shock upon waking up to the unexpected credit alert. Visibly worried, she stated that she had no idea why such a large sum was sent to her and feared the possible consequences if the issue was not quickly addressed.
Determined to avoid any legal trouble, she announced her decision to report the matter immediately. According to her, she planned to visit her bank, the police station, and her Local Government Inspector (LGI) to ensure that the overpayment was properly recorded and returned if necessary.
Her video quickly gained traction on social media, sparking mixed reactions. While many praised her honesty, others speculated on the cause of the overpayment. Some suggested it could be an NYSC system error, while others warned of potential fraud.
As of now, NYSC has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, and it remains unclear whether other corps members experienced similar discrepancies in their payments.
In her statement, she said:
“I received an alert of ₦777K instead of the ₦77K they’re paying others. My own 7 get 3. I’m going to the police station to report, I’ll also visit my LGI office and inform my bank before I get accused of not speaking up.”
