The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has dismissed allegations by the state government under Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing former Governor Gboyega Oyetola of mismanaging a $20 million World Bank health grant for the Save One Million Lives (SOML) programme.
At a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, the APC’s spokesperson, Mogaji Olabisi, refuted the claims, stating that the funds were properly utilized to enhance healthcare services in Osun.
“The SOML project, funded by the World Bank, was designed to improve maternal and child healthcare. Every dollar received was closely monitored by the donor to ensure proper implementation,” Olabisi said.
He emphasized that Oyetola’s administration transparently used the funds to expand healthcare services across the state, with documented evidence, including pictures of completed facilities and programmes.
“We urge the media and the public to review these records, which clearly demonstrate former Governor Oyetola’s commitment to good governance. All contract awards adhered to procurement laws, and no official in his administration was awarded any contracts,” he added.
Olabisi challenged the Adeleke administration to disclose the names of contractors and contract award dates if they were confident in their accusations.
The APC further accused Adeleke’s government of financial mismanagement, claiming that N40 billion from local government funds was funneled into the Governor’s Office, with N11 billion spent on luxury cars for politicians and over N5 billion used for lodge renovations—allegedly awarded to Adeleke’s son-in-law, who reportedly oversaw the project remotely from the United States.
“All this is happening while critical sectors like health, education, and sports suffer from inadequate funding,” Olabisi alleged.
