Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade
The Alaafin-elect of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has outlined his plans to transform the historic empire.
In a statement, the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, Bode Durojaiye, revealed that one of the monarch’s key priorities is tackling youth unemployment. Oba Owoade plans to establish vocational training programs and support graduates with BSc or HND degrees in cybersecurity, aiming to reduce the trend of young professionals seeking opportunities abroad.
The new Alaafin also pledged to build on the legacy of his predecessor, the late Oba Adeyemi, by promoting Yoruba culture and enhancing traditional festivals such as Sango and Oranmiyan.
Furthermore, Oba Owoade intends to empower widows and widowers to improve their socio-economic conditions. Expanding healthcare facilities is another major focus of his reign, with plans already in motion to secure international partnerships for development projects.
Additionally, the Alaafin-elect is committed to reclaiming artefacts taken from Oyo by the British in 1895, working towards their eventual return.
