Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has called on opposition leaders to adopt a strategic and unified approach in challenging President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an annual Ramadan breakfast with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and supporters from all 27 local government areas of Jigawa State, Lamido emphasized the need to set aside personal grievances and emotional biases in the political struggle. The event, held at his residence in Bamaina, Birninkudu Local Government Area, served as a platform to discuss Nigeria’s political landscape.
Lamido expressed deep concern over the deteriorating economic situation, accusing the APC-led government of losing focus and failing to address the growing hardship faced by Nigerians. He warned that opposition leaders must remain resolute and avoid personal distractions if they hope to unseat Tinubu. According to him, success will not come from fighting state institutions out of personal disappointment but from prioritizing the national interest.
He extended a call to former PDP members who had defected to the APC, urging them to return to the party. Lamido argued that many of them had suffered mistreatment in their new political affiliations and should reconsider their decisions. He stressed that returning to the PDP should not be seen as a defeat, as it was the party that originally gave them the platform to thrive in Nigerian politics.
Specifically, he mentioned former governors and political figures such as Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Aliyu Wamakko, encouraging them to reunite with the PDP to “rescue Nigeria from the APC’s failures.”
Lamido also dismissed the notion that alternative parties like the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) could effectively challenge Tinubu, insisting that only the PDP had the strength and nationwide structure to present a formidable opposition.
