Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed reports suggesting he is leaving the party.
Atiku described the rumours of his defection as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and disrupt the ongoing coalition efforts aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speculation has been rife that the former Vice President was planning to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but his media office refuted the claims on Saturday, reaffirming his commitment to the PDP.
A statement from his media team clarified: “We have noticed certain news outlets spreading unverified reports that Atiku Abubakar is abandoning the PDP. Let it be known that these claims are entirely baseless and illogical.”
Atiku emphasized that the coalition he is spearheading includes all opposition parties, with the PDP playing a crucial role.
The statement further stated: “The notion that Waziri Atiku is leaving the PDP is not only false but contradicts the very essence of the grand coalition he is building with other key political figures across the country.”
Reaffirming his loyalty, the statement concluded: “Atiku remains a core and dedicated member of the PDP, the leading opposition party. These defection rumours are nothing more than an attempt to sow confusion and downplay the significance of the broad coalition working tirelessly to rescue Nigeria from APC’s grip.”
