The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 16-year-old girl, Maryam Samuel, who reportedly took her own life in Kaltungo Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the teenager was found hanging from a tree in Kaltungo’s Kalarin community. The incident occurred on March 14, just a day after she left home to collect firewood.
Abdullahi stated: “On Friday, around 9:00 a.m., the village head of Kalarin reported a suicide case at the Kaltungo Divisional Headquarters. The deceased, identified as Maryam Samuel, was discovered hanging from a tree on Kalarin Mountain. There were no signs of violence on her body.”
Her body has been taken to the General Hospital Kaltungo for further examination. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
