A total of 29 lawmakers from the Lagos State House of Assembly, backing the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, have arrived at the Lagos State High Court for the hearing of his legal challenge.

Obasa, who was reportedly ousted by 36 lawmakers on January 13, 2025, while he was out of the country, has contested the decision in court. He filed a lawsuit through his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), seeking to overturn his removal.

Representing Speaker Mojisola Meranda in the case are lead counsel Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), alongside legal heavyweights such as Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN), Mr. Olu Daramola (SAN), Mrs. Abimbola Akeredolu (SAN), Dr. Dada Awosika (SAN), Prof. Dayo Amokaye (SAN), Mr. Mofe Oyetibo (SAN), Mr. Olumide Oyewole, and Mr. Wunmi Okeremi.

Meanwhile, the House has condemned an alleged “unsanctioned plenary session” held on Thursday by Obasa and three other lawmakers, declaring it unconstitutional. The Assembly reaffirmed its support for Speaker Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda and dismissed any speculation regarding her resignation.

Reiterating its commitment to legislative integrity, the Assembly emphasized its dedication to serving the best interests of Lagosians.
