President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his stance that the United States will assume control of the Gaza Strip.
This assertion came during his meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah at the White House on Tuesday.
This marked their first discussion since Trump unveiled his controversial plan regarding Gaza. Recently, he has hinted at the possibility of withholding aid to both Jordan and Egypt unless they consent to accept refugees from Gaza.
In a press conference held in the Oval Office, with King Abdullah seated beside him, Trump remained firm on his Gaza policy, which has garnered widespread international criticism since its announcement last week. “We are going to take it [Gaza],” Trump declared. “We are going to hold it. We are going to cherish it,” he further emphasized.
Onboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump elaborated on his commitment to “buying and owning” the war-torn region. He characterized Gaza as a “demolition site,” suggesting that there is little to return to for its inhabitants.
