The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of abusing power by hosting the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa.
CUPP argued that the Presidential Villa represents national unity and should not be used as a venue for partisan activities. The group expressed concerns over the increasing use of state facilities for political party functions, describing it as a misuse of public resources.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Peter Ameh, CUPP labeled the act as a “clear violation of democratic principles and fairness”.
“The Presidential Villa belongs to all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation. Hosting APC functions at the Villa not only promotes favoritism but also gives the ruling party undue advantage by using state resources for partisan purposes,” the statement read.
The group warned that such practices undermine democracy, create an uneven playing field, and set a dangerous precedent that suggests the ruling party is above the law.
“At a time when Nigerians are grappling with poverty, insecurity, and corruption, using the Presidential Villa for political meetings rather than addressing pressing national issues is unacceptable,” CUPP added.
The coalition urged the APC-led government to respect the neutrality of state institutions and ensure equal access to national facilities by all registered political parties.
