An attacker was shot dead after opening fire on soldiers at a checkpoint near the village of Tayasir in the northern West Bank, the Israeli military reported early Tuesday.

“Following the initial report, a terrorist fired at soldiers at a military post in the area of Tayasir. The soldiers eliminated the terrorist during exchanges of fire,” the military stated on Telegram.

According to Israeli media, the attack left seven people injured, with two in critical condition, as reported by The Times of Israel, citing first responders.

Since January, the Israeli army has intensified operations against militants in the northern West Bank, leading to the deaths of dozens of Palestinians, including minors.

Israel seized the West Bank and East Jerusalem during the Six-Day War in 1967. Today, approximately 700,000 Israeli settlers live in the region alongside three million Palestinians. The Palestinian authorities continue to assert their claim over these territories, with East Jerusalem as their intended capital.
