A 43-year-old scrap metal dealer, Richard Nomanzi, has been found dead in his apartment in Ogbogoro community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. His body bore multiple stab wounds, raising suspicions of foul play.
Residents became aware of the tragedy on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, after noticing a foul odour coming from Nomanzi’s apartment. Concerned neighbours alerted both the police and his relatives. Upon entering the apartment, they discovered his lifeless body.
In an emotional account, Gift, the mother of Nomanzi’s child, recalled how she received the devastating news. “I got a call around 3:15 p.m. while at my business premises. The caller asked if I knew Richard Chijioke Nomanzi, and I said yes. When they asked how I was related to him, I told them we had a child together. They then instructed me to come to Ogbogoro. When I arrived, I saw his corpse at the front door. When they turned him over, I saw multiple stab wounds on his face, stomach, and neck.”
She added, “With the help of the police, we took him to the mortuary. All I want now is justice for him and our child.”
Footage from the scene confirmed that Nomanzi had suffered multiple stab wounds. Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The case has been reported to the Ozuoba Police Division under the Choba Area Command, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding Nomanzi’s death are expected to begin soon.
