Governor Fubara of Rivers State has stated that his disagreements with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ultimately allowed him the freedom to lead the state effectively.
Fubara shared these thoughts while hosting the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Henry Ndukauba, along with other bishops, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
He acknowledged the efforts of Ndukauba in seeking to mediate the conflict between himself and Wike, despite ongoing attempts by President Bola Tinubu and various political figures to resolve the tension.
Fubara remarked, “God has a unique way of orchestrating events. Perhaps, had we achieved peace earlier, I wouldn’t be experiencing the freedom I enjoy today.”
He began by expressing his gratitude, stating, “I want to thank him, even though my appreciation comes a bit late. Many may not grasp the reason behind my gratitude.”
He elaborated on the initial crisis, noting that as a clergyman committed to both parties involved, Ndukauba made numerous phone calls and attempted to arrange meetings that ultimately did not materialize.
“I appreciate his efforts, even if they didn’t yield the desired outcome. Yet, it seems that God has a way of managing situations. Perhaps the conflict was necessary for the release I now experience.
“Sometimes, God allows challenges to persist so that peace can eventually flourish. However, this doesn’t mean we support conflict. Peace is the ultimate goal, both within ourselves and with others, as it fosters development.”
