The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of Ramadan.
Announcing the decision from his palace on Friday evening, the Sultan confirmed that the crescent moon was sighted earlier that day, Friday, February 28, marking the 29th day of Shaban. Reports of the moon sighting from various parts of the country were verified and approved by the council, confirming the commencement of Ramadan 1446.
He urged Muslims to use the holy month for prayers, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for the nation and its leaders. He also emphasized the importance of charity, encouraging support for the less privileged to ensure they can fully participate in the fasting period.
With this declaration, Muslims across Nigeria are set to begin a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and devotion.
