The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State Council, Comrade (Dr.) Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo, narrowly escaped an attempted kidnapping on the evening of Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The incident occurred on a highway near the state capital, where unidentified individuals trailed his vehicle in what appeared to be a coordinated attempt to abduct him.
Reports indicate that the assailants almost succeeded but were thwarted by Arapasopo’s swift driving skills, which allowed him to evade capture.
In response, the Osun State NLC Council has condemned the incident and called on security agencies to ensure the safety of its leader.
The Congress emphasized that Comrade Arapasopo has consistently been a defender of democratic principles and a vocal advocate for workers’ rights and the masses.
“We urge the security agencies to step up efforts in protecting our leader and all citizens of Osun State, ensuring that those behind this heinous act are brought to justice,” the statement from the Council read.
“I want to sincerely appreciate Osun Amotekun for the swift action in rescuing me. Up till this moment, some men of Amotekun are still with me.”
The attempted abduction has raised concerns about the security situation in Osun State, with the labour community and concerned stakeholders calling for proactive measures to curb the rising threats to public figures and activists.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the matter, but citizens are hopeful that swift action will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
