The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, of orchestrating a security crisis in the state in collaboration with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a world press conference in Osogbo, the PDP Chairman in Osun, Hon. Sunday Bisi, alleged that the IGP’s deployment of special forces to escort “miscreants” into local government councils was a deliberate act to incite violence. He further claimed that the move was part of a broader scheme to destabilize the state and threaten the life of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The Inspector General of Police has flagrantly disrespected the authority of the state’s Chief Security Officer, Governor Adeleke, by supporting the forceful takeover of local government councils by sacked APC chairmen and councillors,” Bisi stated.
He described the situation as a “blatant coup” and accused the IGP of acting on a “non-existent court order” being used by the APC to justify its actions. The PDP chairman warned that the governor’s life was in danger and called on Nigerians and the international community to hold IGP Egbetokun responsible should any harm come to Adeleke.
Alleged Plan to Disrupt LG Elections
Bisi further alleged that the ultimate goal of the crisis was to prevent the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025. He claimed that the APC and its “allies in security outfits” were desperate to disrupt the polls after failing to challenge the legality of the electoral process.
