The police escort assigned to Mojisola Meranda, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been withdrawn, along with security personnel stationed at the Assembly complex.

This sudden development has reportedly left Meranda and the legislative chamber without formal security protection.

Confirming the situation, a source told News Bulletin: “As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own.” The source further warned that Meranda is now “vulnerable and open to attack,” calling for urgent intervention.

Meranda assumed the speakership on January 13, 2025, after the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa while he was in the United States. Following her swearing-in, she received the backing of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

However, Obasa has since challenged his removal, arguing that due process was not followed. Reports of his return have now surfaced, raising speculations that the withdrawal of Meranda’s security detail may be linked to this ongoing power struggle.
