The Kaduna State Government, through the Kaduna Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), has sealed United Nigerian Textiles Limited (UNTL) over an outstanding tax liability of N1.2 billion.
Aisha Ahmed, Executive Board Secretary of KADIRS, disclosed this during an enforcement operation in Kaduna. She stated that intelligence reports indicated the company was planning to relocate, emphasizing that it must clear its debts before doing so.
United Nigerian Textiles Company, along with its subsidiaries Unitex Ltd and Supertex Ltd, was previously shut down between 2003 and 2006 due to raw material shortages and financial challenges, leading to the layoff of over 80,000 workers and affecting numerous contractors and traders operating within its premises.
