Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has addressed growing speculation regarding his intentions for a presidential run.
While acknowledging his qualifications to pursue the presidency, El-Rufai clarified that he has not engaged in any discussions about such ambitions.
During an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday evening, he commented on his recent interactions with opposition figures, including meetings with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, and representatives from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Despite these discussions, El-Rufai firmly rejected any possibility of joining the PDP.
He stated, “Anyone aged 35 or older with a secondary school certificate is eligible to run for president, so I am qualified in that aspect.
“But have I initiated conversations about running for any office? No, I have never talked about that with anyone.
“The PDP is not a party I would consider joining. I contemplated it long ago and made my decision, and nothing has changed.”
