Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), following the recent dismissal of Dr. Abdullahi Bichi on health grounds.
The announcement was made on Saturday through a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirming that Ibrahim’s appointment takes effect on February 10, 2025.
Ibrahim, a former permanent secretary in the Kano State civil service, was selected based on his vast experience and expertise, which align with the administration’s development goals. His public service career, spanning from 1987 to 2023, has significantly contributed to the state’s administrative framework.
Between March 2001 and May 2015, he served as Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. During this time, he played a crucial role in policy analysis, government advisory, and overseeing policy implementation across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
From June 2015 to March 2016, he held the position of Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services, further demonstrating his leadership and administrative capabilities. He also acted as Secretary to the State Government during annual leaves in 2013 and 2014, reflecting the trust placed in him by previous administrations.

His earlier career saw him actively involved in community and educational reforms, notably as Secretary of the Inter-Community/Religious Consultative Forum in 1998 and the Committee on the Review of the Agency for Mass Education in 1994.
A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University with a B.Sc. in Political Science, Ibrahim has also acquired several professional certifications, further solidifying his credentials.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to strengthen the state’s administrative structure and drive the implementation of key policies. The appointment is expected to enhance governance efficiency and support the government’s vision for sustained development and progress in Kano State.
