The Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) has attributed the shortfall in January salaries of federal workers to a system error in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
JPSNC assured affected workers that the government is actively addressing the discrepancies, which resulted in lower-than-usual salaries for the month.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the council’s National Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Anthony, made this clarification on Monday in response to concerns raised by civil servants over the unexpected pay cuts.
Anthony explained that the issue stemmed from a “systematic error” within IPPIS, which caused the salary reductions.
“We received complaints, though not formally, from workers about reductions in their January salaries compared to what they earned from October to December 2024.
“In response, we issued a memo to all industrial unions, requesting details from their members. These details will help us escalate the matter to the federal government for a resolution.
“Unconfirmed reports from IPPIS sources indicate that the issue was a system error. We have been assured that the mistake is being corrected,” he stated.
Anthony further revealed that the JPSNC had formally communicated the issue to the Head of Service of the Federation, who has promised to escalate the complaint to the Accountant General’s office for further investigation.
“She assured us that if any errors are confirmed, all affected workers will receive their full salaries,” he added.
