The Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Comrade (Dr) Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo, has strongly denied allegations that he was a beneficiary of car gifts distributed to selected civil servants under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
In a statement on Friday, Arapasopo dismissed the claims made by a group calling itself the Osun Workers Union (OWU), describing them as “faceless miscreants” attempting to gain cheap popularity.
“OWU accused me of receiving a car gift during the administration of ex-Governor Oyetola. I challenge them to provide evidence of this baseless claim. The world is now a global village where facts are stored and verifiable,” he stated.
He clarified that the distribution of vehicles to selected civil servants was handled by the Office of the Head of Service during the previous administration’s annual first working day event, emphasizing that he had no personal involvement.
Arapasopo also refuted claims that the NLC had attempted to coerce health workers and primary school teachers into joining an alleged strike.
“At no point did the State Congress force any worker to participate in a strike. In fact, there is no ongoing strike in Osun State at this moment,” he asserted.
He further reminded the OWU that the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) remains an affiliate of the NLC, reaffirming the congress’s commitment to standing in solidarity with all workers.
“These elements are clearly trying to distract the Labour Movement in Osun State, but we remain focused on defending the rights of workers. If OWU truly represents workers, let them begin negotiations for the new national minimum wage for their members,” he added.
Arapasopo reaffirmed the NLC’s dedication to the welfare of Osun workers, pledging to resist any attempts to derail the movement.
