The Offa Descendants Union (ODU) has dismissed calls for the removal of the Business Manager of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Offa Business Hub, describing the allegations against her as baseless and unfounded.
Chief Lanre Shittu, the Otun Akoni of Offa and Chairman of ODU Home Branch and Electricity Committee, defended the IBEDC official, stating that she has won three awards since assuming office and remains committed to her duties.
“One should be careful of sharing unverified reports. As far as ODU is concerned, this news is a fallacy. The national problem of power supply should not be localized. Her zero tolerance for unscrupulous activities should not be used against her,” Chief Shittu said.
He alleged that some of those calling for her removal have been involved in illegal electricity transactions, including collecting money for prepaid meters without remitting it to IBEDC.
“Only ODU can speak for Offa. The woman is hardworking. Who are the people calling for her removal? Do your independent investigation,” he added in an interaction with News Bulletin Nigeria.
It would be recalled that, some electricity consumers in Offa and Oyun continue to express frustration over worsening power supply.
They accuse IBEDC of deliberately reducing electricity allocation while maintaining high billing rates.
Their key complaints include:
Limited Power Supply: The six feeders supplying Offa and Oyun reportedly receive electricity for only 1 to 2 hours daily.
Unfair Distribution: While Offa and Oyun struggle, towns like Omu-Aran, Ilorin, and Osogbo reportedly enjoy more stable power.
Misinformation: Residents reject IBEDC’s claim that power shortages result from low water levels at hydroelectric dams, citing findings from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) that power allocation is sufficient.
