"Barbaric, Unlawful, Ungodly" - CDHR Reacts To Ritual Killing In Ilorin, Demands Justice for Victim
An Ilorin Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 29-year-old cleric, Abdulrahman Muhammed Bello, and four others at the Oke-Kura Custodial Centre over their alleged involvement in the killing of Hafsat Lawal, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education.
Presiding Magistrate Sanusi Muhammad, in a brief ruling, declined to take the defendants’ plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction. He ordered their detention at Oke-Kura until March 6, 2025.
Earlier, News Bulletin Nigeria reported that the police had arraigned Abdulrahman alongside his co-accused on charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, armed robbery, and possession of human parts.
The other suspects include 41-year-old Islamic scholar Ahmed Abulwasiu from Adualere, Ilorin; 28-year-old businessman Sulaiman Muhydeen from Amilegbe, Ilorin; 29-year-old phone repairer Jamiu Uthman from Adualere, Ilorin; and 31-year-old farmer Abdulrahman Jamiu from Elemere, Malete.
According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the accused are members of the same occult group and have allegedly confessed to robbing and murdering the victim for ritual purposes.
