The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of three employees from the Lagos State House of Assembly in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations of assault on its officers.
Justice Daniel Osiagor issued the remand order for the trio—Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola—after the DSS, represented by lawyer Michael Bajela, sought to arraign them on the charges. However, the judge opted to review the case file before proceeding with the arraignment, which is now set for today, February 26, 2025.
According to the charges filed on February 24, 2025, the DSS alleges that the defendants conspired with others still at large to assault its officers without justification while they were performing their official duties. The incident reportedly took place on February 17, 2025, at the Lagos State House of Assembly, where the accused were alleged to have obstructed DSS officers in the line of duty.
The DSS has also accused the defendants of cyberstalking, claiming they recorded and shared false information on social media to incite public disorder, among other offenses.
In response to the arrest, the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the Director of the DSS to immediately release the detained staff members. Babatunde Ogunlana, Chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Lagos chapter, addressed the media to demand swift intervention from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Director-General of the DSS, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other relevant authorities.
Ogunlana emphasized the union’s commitment to their cause, stating, “No Retreat, No Surrender,” as they demand the release of their detained colleagues.
