The operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Mohammed Adams, a guard to Shoppy Supermarket, Magboro and Mastaudu Mohammed for burglary and theft of N14m goods from the supermarket.
The CCTV footage obtained from the supermarket was said to have shown Adams, the night guard on duty, opening the gate for his other gang members to gain access to the supermarket premises and operating unhindered.
The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Friday.
Odutola said that one Adelanke Olalekan had reported the burglary incident of his supermarket at Oke-Afa to the police division at Warewa, along the Lagos-Ibadan motorway.
Olalekan had told the police that So-Safe Corps personnel called him at about 05:45 hours, informing him that his supermarket at Oke-Afa had been burgled and that on getting there, he found out that his shop had been broken into and goods worth ₦14 million had been carted away.
She added, “Upon receiving the report, the DPO mobilised his detectives to the scene, where CCTV footage was obtained.
“The footage revealed that the night guard, Mohammed Adams (male), who was assigned to secure the premises, had opened the gate for his accomplices, allowing them to gain access and successfully commit the crime.
“During interrogation, Adams confessed to masterminding the burglary. Further investigations led to the arrest of one Mastaudu Mohammed (male) in connection with the crime.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has again reiterated the importance of vigilance and security consciousness among the residents of the state.
Ogunlowo emphasised that many criminal incidents can be prevented if individuals exercise basic security precautions.
He urged everyone in the state to remain proactive in safeguarding their personal and business environments to deter criminal activities.
